A Life-Changing Tragedy

Have you watched the news lately? If so, you may have heard about all of the floods that are happening in both South Carolina and North Carolina.

Nearly 17 people have been pronounced dead at this time (fifteen people in South Carolina and two in North Carolina). Six of the deaths were caused by the weather, two of those six having taken place in Aiken, SC, two in Greenville, NC, one in Anderson, SC, and another in Horry, SC.

Since the rain began on October 1, there have been 4,926 total service calls on the road and about 2,122 collisions. Certain roads are staying blocked off until further notice.

About eleven dams have fallen down in South Carolina. As of this last Saturday, October 3 of 2015, 35 dams were being monitored. More than 400,000 residents are under a “boil water advisory”, which advises them to boil their water before consumption due to the possibility of contamination by bacteria.

A spokeswomen had stated that there has been 175 water rescues so far in South Carolina. Over 70 miles of the interstate 95 in the state remained closed, with 5 to 8 bridges still awaiting an inspection.

Out of all floods, this one is one that has caused most damage. Now, cities in South Carolina are working to reconstruct buildings and do work in the areas needed. All of the damage that has been done is going to cost billions of dollars to repair. Some people’s lives, as we know, will never be the same due to all of the floods that have been occurring in South and North Carolina.
