The Benefits of a Shorter School Day

The Benefits of a Shorter School Day

As a high school student, your biggest priority should be school and homework. At times, it will get stressful, but you will need school in order to have a better future. As this first year of high school has begun, it has been enjoyable, although it is a lot different from middle school. For example, the requirements are to take six classes instead of four classes. The school day is seven hours long, but school takes up too much time in a student’s day, which doesn’t allow them enough time to complete assignments at home.

According to research, students tend to be very stressed because they’re not given enough down time which leads to students not wanting to complete assignments and feeling very rushed.

A coach from La Joya Community high school, also known as the Algebra one teacher, Mr. Abel, said, “Fewer students in a class, more time for students.” He also states, “I use my time wisely, I get to school at 6:50am.” This shows how teachers also don’t have enough time, just like students.

A teacher, Mr. Sepulveda, said, “If we had shorter class periods, the day would go by quicker. This means that teachers have been feeling rushed as well as students and the shorter school will benefit  both students and teachers.

Under these circumstances, many people support a shorter school day because of its many benefits that can allow students to turn in work on time and can allow teachers to be more prepared for each individual classes and their daily life.
