United States- School’s have not been as safe as it should have these past ten years. Students fear a lot coming to school not knowing what will happen because a lot could happen in one second.
There has been a lot of shootings and gun violence in schools worldwide and the United States is in the lead with a number of 288 school shootings since 2009. The US has had 57 times as many school shootings as the majority of the world combined. Due to the recent shootings, students have developed multiple issues such as anxiety and depression for those who’ve seen school as one of their only safe spots.
“I’m scared to even walk on my bus in the morning because I don’t know if something is going to happen because that thought is always in the back of my mind and people joke about it all the time so half of the time I don’t even know if they’re joking so that’s why I’m scared to come to school”Angela Arreola said.
It’s sad to think it’s not just happening in high schools it’s also happening in middle schools as well as elementary. Some recent school shootings have happened at Nobles Ville West middle schools. There also was a school shooting at an elementary school in Newtown with 28 fatalities including 20 children.
“Not knowing what today is going to look like or what’s going to happen sometime I don’t want to get up and go to school I would think of school as my happy place before all the scary stuff that happens at schools and mine as well,” said Alejandra Ibarra.
