More Than Just an Athlete: Tre Lefebvre

AVONDALE- A senior athlete at La Joya Community High School is trying his hardest all year to be the best he can be as a student-athlete.

Tre Lefebvre has grown to love the sport he has been doing since he was young. Basketball has been in his life for as long as he can remember. He also believes being a part of his high school team is an honor. Being the son of his own coach has been the main reason why he even got into playing basketball. All his life its always been there and couldn’t avoid that.

Learning and playing along with his dad throughout the years have created the player he is today. Being around his dad and older brother has given him the chance to learn and love the sport, “What got me into basketball was my dad and brother. Growing up, I always had a basketball in my hand, as you can imagine being the son of a basketball coach. Constantly hooping outside my house with my brother as a kid made me begin to love to play” said Tre. his passion grew over the years and his abilities have improved since he was a kid. Playing almost every day gets you to be the athlete you want to be and Tre achieves that every time he touches the basketball. Even though he is the son of the head coach at La Joya Community School, everything he has accomplished he’s done it on his own.

After being injured on the football field Tre has returned to play on the field and court. Being injured did hold him back for two years of playing but it’s his last year and he is determined to play this season. Tre states, “I feel confident, I returned to football two months earlier than expected and had no troubles throughout the season. My leg feels just as strong as it did before the injury” (Lefebvre). When he was injured on the football field he was torn and felt as if everything he loved was stripped away. He was devastated and all he wanted to do was play for football and basketball in the coming season. Feeling this way he stated, “Soon before my surgery I knew I had to get into a better mindset if I wanted to come back fast and as strong as I could” (Lefebvre). Post-surgery all he was focused on was getting to his destination and completing a season before he graduated.

Basketball is a team sport and having your own teammates welcome you back is a great feeling for Tre. Knowing it’s going to be different since he was not able to play the last two years he believes that it’s still his team and he’s happy to be apart of it. Tre said, “The team is solid, especially once an injured player comes back”. The basketball team works as one and together they face all the challenges on the court. Glad to be back, Tre Lefebvre is ready for this winter season with his teammates.
