An Intimate Self-Portraitist

“My painting carries with it the message of pain (Frida Kahlo)”. That’s what I seen when I went to the exhibit in the Heard Museum in Phoenix. You walk and you get the scene of photographs of her father, mother, and a whole general idea of her life that she kept hidden from the world for many years and now showcased.

You have a sense of the back story of her father and some of his work. If you never went to an exhibit you have to follow all the pictures along the wall where some work is displayed, and to me it felt like I was walking by centuries of art go by my eyes.

Frida Kahlo’s father’s name is Guillermo Kahlo, the exhibit gave us a story about him and some of the work he did. He did a lot of self-portrait photography.

In the beginning they do shows and tell us a lot about the father of Frida. In the exhibit they showed a video of the people that knew her and told us a lot about the person she is.

What I learned about her was a lot of art was inspired by her father. Since he died she wanted his legacy to go on in some of her work she did when painting or photography.

One thing that stuck out the most in the exhibit is that whenever she would appear in a photography she would cut herself out why? We will never know why she did that.

I do recommend that you go see her exhibit or any art exhibit because you get to learn the background of an artist and a sense of an artist cultural and why they do the work they do.
