Hopelessly Devoted To Grease: Live!

This past Sunday, on Jan. 31st was the day that Grease fans throughout the nation gathered around their TVs and watched the popular 70’s movie turned into a play.

Rydell High’s favorite seniors including power couple Sandy (Julianne Hough) and Danny (Aaron Tveit) joined their fellow Pink Ladies and T-Birds for another run on the big screen, but this time it was on a live stage.

The Pink Ladies included the rebellious leader Rizzo (Vanessa Hudgens), beauty school dropout Frenchy (Carly Rae Jepsen), the oh-so interesting Jan (Kether Donohue), and the professional love letter writer Marty (Keke Palmer).

Of course with Danny came the bad boys of the T-Birds, Kenickie (Carlos Pena Vega), Doody (Jordan Fisher), Sonny (Andrew Call), and Putzie (David Del Rio).

The play included all the popular hits like “Hopelessly Devoted To You” and “You’re the One That I Want”.

With the play being live and televised, the cast had a lot of pressure on their shoulders. They had minimal time to get ready for their next scene and like any other theatre play, “breaking a leg” was needed.

Vanessa Hudgens especially needed all the uplifting and luck during the show. Hours before they put on the show, her father Greg Hudgens passed away due to stage 4 cancer.

Vanessa took it to Twitter stating that the show will go on and she would perform in honor of her loving father.

Hudgens put on an amazing show despite her loss and performed Rizzo’s lead song, “There Are Worse Things I Could Do”. A tragic event did not stop the cast from giving this show the best they could.

Thoughts and prayers were sent out to the Hudgens’ family as well as congratulatory messages about the play.

The cast was full of strong and very talented people and it amazed many people as to how great the movie was captured.

Grease: Live included things that the movie did not, like diversity.

Keke Palmer playing a role like Marty was a big deal to the media. It was great to see more faces in one of the most popular movies around.

Grease: Live was such an amazing play and was well represented. This play will definitely be talked about for a while by people all over the world.
