  • All girls and boys soccer players, our first Fall Soccer Clinic is THIS Friday, October 9th from 5-7:30 pm this is a great opportunity to work with different coaches from around the valley on your skills before tryouts in November. It only costs $5 and you can pre-pay at the bookstore. See Coach Morris if you have any questions. (2/2)

 

  • Congratulations to the Lady Lobo Golf Team who came away with their first victory of the season yesterday over the Dysart Demons. Leading the ladies were Captain Kathy Retana with the low score of the round, and Aiten (pronounced eye-ten) Elgamal who recorded a personal best for the season. Additional help in the victory came from Arlene Bermudez and Xochitl (pronounced so-chee) Segura. Way to go ladies!

 

  • Science Club members we have a meeting TODAY in room 1204 to review ideas for Trunk N’ Treat and to watch a cool science video. Snacks will be provided!!

 

  • Hey seniors, looking for something to do over the break? Well maybe consider applying for scholarships! The guidance office has additional scholarships with a variety of monetary awards to help pay for college if selected. Stop by the guidance office for more information but hurry some of these close as early as October 30th! (1/2)

 

  • Listen up Lobos! Do you like poetry and music? Are you a comedian or actor? Well then Soulful Expressions Open Mic is just for you. The Open Mic takes place THIS Saturday at the Avondale Public Library from 4:30-7:00pm. You’ve probably seen some flyers around campus! The event is free and open to the public, whether you want to perform or just watch and eat some of the snacks provided. It’s Halloween themed so feel free to dress up, but also feel free not to! The event was started by some Lobos, so come out and support!

The Horatio Alger Scholarship is open and accepting applications for seniors that are involved in co-curricular activities & community services, maintain a GPA at a minimum of 2.0 or higher, be a U.S.citizen, demonstrate a financial need, and display integrity & perseverance in overcoming adversity. This scholarship can range from 7,000-22,000 for college, if you’re interested stop by the guidance office for more info but hurry all the requested items must be submitted no later than October 25th.(2/2)

This week is Banned Books Week, when schools and libraries celebrate our freedom to read and not be censored. Mrs. Igwe has some examples of banned books on display available for checkout, plus a NEW contest. Go to the library to figure out 2 clues related to banned books. The winner will be announced next week.

The National Association for College Admission Counseling (otherwise known as the NACAC) invites students grades 10-12 to a NAtional College Fair coming to the Phoenix area. This Sunday downtown at the Phoenix Convention Center from 11am – 3pm you may attend a workshop on financial aid and other college admission related information, meet a variety of over 100 college & university representatives who can answer questions about their campuses, scholarships and admission requirements and visit the counseling/resource center to talk to a counselor about choosing a major. If you’re planning on attending make sure to pre-register at www.nacanet.org/ncfstudent or for more information stop by the guidance office.

You will get a study guide when you sign up for it to help you prepare. Taking the PSAT will not only help you prepare for the SAT but will also give you the opportunity to enter into National Merit Scholarship Program, recognizes academic excellence and award college scholarships.   •  Hey students if you are between the ages of 14 – 18 years old and are interested in a high tech career exploration program then I have some info for you! On October 6-8th Collabra Solutions, Gateway Community College & Impress Labs will be hosting the SEMI High Tech U program inviting local high school students. The primary focus of this program is to motivate students to start thinking about their future & what they can do now to prepare. There are a limited number of seats for this program and a total of 40 students will attend from different high schools in the Phoenix area. September 22nd is the deadline to sign up so if you’re interested in learning more about this great program, stop by the guidance office. (2/2)

  •  Hot off the press! Homecoming tickets will be on sale in the bookstore starting today through Friday, September 25th. Tickets for the dance themed, Hollywood: A Red Carpet Affair, will be sold individually for $8 for single tickets during ticket presales and $10 at the door of the dance. Homecoming will take place from 7:00-10:00PM Saturday, September 26th on campus in the cafeteria. Students who wish to bring a guest, another high school student from a different school must pick up a guest permission slip form from the Discipline Office.

 

  •  Anyone interested in playing baseball this year, there will be a mandatory 15 minute meeting Thursday the 17th in room 545 at 2:15.   Dates, times and requirements for open field and club ball will be discussed.(2/2)

 

 

  •  Hey all you juniors & seniors listen up! We will be having a college/career fair this Friday, Sept. 18th inside the cafeteria from 8am – 9:30am. Make sure you’re here in school that day to collect all your info you need from several colleges, universities, trade/tech schools & military branches in the valley & state. If you have a first hour class, make sure you report to class first as teaches will be taking attendance. You will be dismissed by an announcement over the intercom to proceed towards the cafeteria for the college/career fair.   •  Hey students if you are between the ages of 14 – 18 years old and are interested in a high tech career exploration program then I have some info for you! On October 6-8th Collabra Solutions, Gateway Community College & Impress Labs will be hosting the SEMI High Tech U program inviting local high school students.The primary focus of this program is to motivate students to start thinking about their future & what they can do now to prepare. There are a limited number of seats for this program and a total of 40 students will attend from different high schools in the Phoenix area. September 22nd is the deadline to sign up so if you’re interested in learning more about this great program, stop by the guidance office. (1/2)

 

  •  Lobos, Find the Hero in you! The blood drive is back! Sign up now at both lunches. If you already have a permission slip, please turn it into Ms. Kuehn in room 819 or to one of the representatives at the blood drive table. Also, if you have not indicated what period and room you will be in when you want to give blood, you must stop by the sign up table and provide this info. Otherwise, you will not be able to donate.

 

  •  Attention all Lobos, volleyball is at it against Tolleson, TONIGHT! They took down Sierra Linda on Tuesday, now watch them take down another district foe. Freshman start at 4, JV at 5, Varsity at 6. Let’s pack the stands and beat those Wolverines!!!

 

  •  Interested in learning about colleges and scholarships, interested in meeting representatives from state and out of state universities? Well than join Be A Leader today after school with Mr. West in Room 1122. Club time starts at 2:10 right after school and we will be discussing the College Walk A Thon as well as other important events coming up. ALL AGES WELCOME!!

 

  • Congratulations to the Cross Country Pack both boys’ and girls team ran over Kellis HS and Peoria HS yesterday during their home meet. Congratulations to Senior Joel Dongo for finish 1st and Junior Jose Limas finishing second overall. On the girls team Sophomore Mariah Moreno finished 3rd running a new PR of 22:18, Sophomore Alondra Lopez finished 4 and freshman Carmen Raygoza finished 5th overall. Congratulations to both teams.

  • Greetings. We have Homecoming News for you! The Homecoming Football Game will take place Friday, September 25th at 7:00PM followed by the Homecoming Dance, Saturday September 26th from 7:00pm-10pm in the Cafeteria. Starting next Monday (9/21), Homecoming Spirit Week and Lunch Activities will begin. Homecoming spirit days will include: Monster Movie Monday, Super Hero Tuesday, Favorite Character Wednesday, Animation/Cartoon Thursday and ALL OUT LOBO day Friday. Students as well as teachers and staff are encouraged to participate. Remember that when dressing up, you must meet the dress code policy. NO FAKE BLOOD or HATS will be allowed on campus.   • Are you looking for a place to be yourself? Are you a LGBT youth and looking for an empowering group? Then GSA is for you. GSA is a Gay-Straight Alliance between LGBT youth and their friends, family, and teachers. Join us for our first meeting on Wednesday September 16, 2015 in room 1218.   • Attention juniors: We will be offering the PSAT on campus on October 28th here at La Joya. The fee for the test is $15.00 and can be paid for in the bookstore. You will get a study guide when you sign up for it to help you prepare. Taking the PSAT will not only help you prepare for the SAT but will also give you the opportunity to enter into National Merit Scholarship Program, recognizes academic excellence and award college scholarships. It also offers free college advisory to all students that take it. Hurry and sign up in the bookstore before all spots are gone.   • Hot off the press! Homecoming tickets will be on sale in the bookstore starting today through Friday, September 25th. Tickets for the dance themed, Hollywood: A Red Carpet Affair, will be sold individually for $8 for single tickets during ticket presales and $10 at the door of the dance. Homecoming will take place from 7:00-10:00PM Saturday, September 26th on campus in the cafeteria. Students who wish to bring a guest, another high school student from a different school must pick up a guest permission slip form from the Discipline Office.

 

  • Anyone interested in playing baseball this year, there will be a mandatory 15 minute meeting Thursday the 17th in room 545 at 2:15.   Dates, times and requirements for open field and club ball will be discussed.(1/2)

  • Hey all you juniors & seniors listen up! We will be having a college/career fair this Friday, Sept. 18th inside the cafeteria from 8am – 9:30am. Make sure you’re here in school that day to collect all your info you need from several colleges, universities, trade/tech schools & military branches in the valley & state. If you have a first hour class, make sure you report to class first as teaches will be taking attendance. You will be dismissed by an announcement over the intercom to proceed towards the cafeteria for the college/career fair.
