On August 13th, 2024, Coach Sil met at the track to talk about how she feels about coaching and all things La Joya Community High School.
Coach Sil is a sprinter coach for us here at La Joya, but while she’s not here she teaches her own college class. She has influenced and grown a relationship with just about every player on the track team.
As a coach she analyzes her athletes and notices every little detail about their attitude, effort and how coachable they are when training. During the interview Coach answered the question of “What is the most important trait of an athlete that you look for?” and coach replied with: “Work ethic, you have to be able to come out here… go pedal to the medal”. Being able to show up and put in your best effort is the most valuable thing an athlete can do. Coach Sil also touches on subjects beyond the track, such as balancing your work, school, and sport. Most importantly is mental health, taking care of yourself should be your highest priority “Do it because you want to” Is what Coach Sil said when asked what she wanted to tell anyone thinking about joining track or another sport.
