Technology can be a good tool for schools, but students often don’t know how to control themselves and be productive around computers and tablets. With students being non-productive around technology, is technology really the best way to go?
Antonio Gilbert, a junior at Westview High School, when it comes to technology in school says, “ Technology can help students learn through group projects and helpful sites, but it has its downsides when kids begin to abuse it.”
Basically, when it comes to technology in schools Gilbert says, it depends on how the students handle it. If students were to be productive with technology, should schools just switch to an online curriculum?
“They should make the switch gradually if anything,… no they shouldn’t do it at all. Students should still learn how to write,” said Gilbert.
Many people say technology makes people dumb and not self-reliant, with computers and tablets being incorporated into schools are we teaching new generations how to be dumb and self reliant? Antonio and Danielle Burks, a mother of 3 high school students, were asked this question.
Gilbert said, “No, because they will still be learning, just in a different way. They may lack in self-reliance, because they don’t have any practice with relying on themselves.”
Danielle Burks said, “mmm…pretty much. Technology is fun and all, but with just technology kids will be dumb.”
Technology has been developing really fast, with these developments comes more and more ways for schools to use the technology. Technology is developing so fast that no one really knows how technology is going to be used in the future. What will schools look like in 2030? Are we going to get rid of books?
School life in 2030 is difficult to comprehend, because there are numerous problems that need to be overcome or suggestions that need to be analyzed. It probably wouldn’t be best to switch to a technology based school curriculum, but with the new technology developments, can it be avoided? Will teaching methods stay the same while the rest of the world develops? Technology is better for schools, but a school without books is doomed to produce unsuccessful students. Will school curriculum get better or worse in 2030?
