Advisory at La Joya Community High School is used to make a positive impact as well as be beneficial to students lives and help them make better choices and decisions.
Does having an advisory class benefit you as a student yes or no? What is advisory? “An advisory is a regularly scheduled period of time, typically during the school day, when teachers meet with small groups of students for the purpose of advising them on academic, social, or future-planning issues” said Mrs. Brunk.
In what ways do you think advisory can benefit you as a Lobo student?
How can one class affect the outlook on La Joya? Well advisory is a class all La Joya students go to every Tuesday after his or her second hour, this class gives the opportunity for students’ to grow mentally by applying good thoughts and good choices into the students heads. In this class you will learn better ways and find better choices on how to live your everyday lives, also you get the opportunity to start thinking of your future outside of high school. In advisory class students’ can come together and discuss issues they are having on campus and find ways to prevent them from happening again.
Advisory is a beneficial source for our school’s campus climate and it provides ways to get involved with schools giving you clubs, sports, and events to attend and be apart of our very own Lobo Pack. The lessons the teachers receive to teach that class are supposed to help students become more open-minded.
An advisory board made up of teachers and staff help form lesson plans in which they think will be beneficial for the students.
A La Joya student said that “Advisory seems like a nice class to go to because we learn new characteristics and are able to plan out our future lives while being there, and we also get to make vision boards that we look at everyday to maintain our goals.”
Others said “I don’t like advisory because it’s boring and what we learn doesn’t truly interest me and I feel like adults shouldn’t be planning out our futures for us we should take place and do it ourselves.”
Having advisory can be good or bad according to the student. Advisory is what you make of it. We all have different opinions as well as intakes on our school courses we take.
