Waterparks is a band formed in Houston, Texas in 2011 and consists of 3 members, Awsten Knight (lead vocalist and guitarist), Geoff Wigington (backing vocalist and guitarist), and Otto Wood (drummer). Ever since they formed, the band has released numerous of EP’s that include songs like I’m A Natural Blue and Territory. Double Dare being the guys’ freshman album, there has been expectations broken. Many artists around Waterparks have given them praises and congratulations about their new album. Since the release of the freshmen album, multiple amounts of reviews have surfaced. Here is a song by song review on how I view Waterpark’s new album Double Dare.

1. Hawaii (Stay Awake): The song starts off with a techno feel but after a few seconds, the guitars and drums chime in and the song changes moods. With lyrics like “I was bitter but I’m fine now, I pulled my head down from its dark cloud”, this song has a deeper meaning to it but will some of the audience catch the deep meanings?
2. Gloomy Boys: This song ties into the “happy tone but deep lyrics” feel that this album has. Lyrics like “I like happy songs with titles that don’t match at all” makes you realize that maybe this song is the opposite of what they’re saying. This song is upbeat but their lyrics have a sad tone to it but that makes the music better.
3. Stupid For You: This song personally reminds me of an old boyband due to the music video. Out of all the songs on the album, this song is the most upbeat song and guaranteed to put you in a happy mood. The lyrics “Just double dare me and I promise now that I’ll stay.” are some of my favorite due to them saying the actual album name.
4. Royal: This song is so lyrically under appreciated. This song, like the whole album, is very well written and should be paid closer attention to. This song also carries out the whole “listen between the lines” theme that this album carries. They mention their hometown in the lyrics “I’m sick of being in Houston, I’m sick of everything I’ve been around enough to get used to.”
5. Take Her to the Moon: This song starts off so much different from the songs before this. The song is much more techno that the past 4 songs and the vibe is very upbeat. It really sets itself off from the entire album, Like Stupid For You, it mentions the album name, “I’m a double dare away from dropping everything to fly out and see you”. THIS IS MY FAVORITE THING THAT THEY’RE DOING IN THIS ALBUM.
6. Made in America: To start off, this song’s instruments are heavier than all other songs. Reading the lyrics to this song, it is a very heavy song and the title reflects it. This has to be one of my favorites off the album due to the lyrics. It is very well written and I just absolutely love the lyrics and message to the song.
7. Dizzy: The song starts off very smooth and calm. When the chorus hits, so does the beat. The song picks up and becomes an upbeat song. The lyrics are great, as usual.
8. Powerless: This is one of the few slow songs in the album. It’s very smooth and calming but when the chorus comes on, like Dizzy, the hard instruments come in but it still serves as a very calming tone to the song.
9. Little Violence: The guitar riffs in this song, that is all.
10. 21 Questions: MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE SONG. This is the softest and most relaxing song out of this whole album. From Awsten’s voice to the acoustic guitar, this is a really great song. Towards the end of the song, the song picks up speed and becomes upbeat like the rest of the album.
11. It Follows: This song sounds a bit different to the other songs on the album because it varies from slow to fast tones throughout the song. Lyric wise, it has more of a rhyming scheme to it.
12. Plum Island: The beginning of this song sounds really fun with the drum stick tones to it. This song, like It Follows also varies with tones but this song is more faster. The instruments behind this song sound different from the other songs on the album but it’s a pleasant change. This song is one of the faster song on the albums and it is one of my personal favorites.
13. I’ll Always Be Around: For me, the last song of an album is the most important and this song captures that importance. It brings the album to a soothing end and the lyrics are very comforting. The album comes to a very pleasant end. The message behind the lyrics are very comforting and if you are a fan of Waterparks, this is one of the most important songs from the album with lyrics like “You know I’ll always be around”.

This album is one of my absolute favorites this year. It contains a mix of slow songs to the well-known pop punk tones. I recommend this album to anyone who is looking for new music to listen to and is willing to give any genre of music a try. Waterparks is a fun band and their music reflects what they are all about.
