Holes is a movie based off the popular book of the same name, the film stars Shia LeBeouf as the main character Stanley Yelnats the 4th, which is still pronounced Stanley Yelnats when spelled backwards.
The premise follows Stanley through his long run of bad luck, getting caught with a stolen pair of shoes he didn’t even steal, meeting his idol only to disappoint him in the worst way possible, and convicted of a crime he didn’t even do which gets him sent to the main setting of the film
Camp green lake is a desert town cursed to never rain after an incident in the towns past involving racism and murder. It was once a booming town with a large lake but now is a dry desert with no water for miles except for a small mountain known as gods thumb, the goal of the camp is to discipline youth by digging 1 hole every day, 6 feet in depth, and 6 feet in diameter. This goes on till one day Stanley meets a small kid named zero who’s only there because he has no parents, home, or relatives to go back to.
Stanley teaches him to spell, read, and write, this eventually gets both in trouble by the camps counselors, this prompts both to run away, with the smallest hope of finding something, they last for a few days before returning in the dead of night to dig one last hole. This of course ends in them finding a chest belonging to his great grandfather. Full of money that’s now worth over 10x its original value, he splits it 50/50 with zero and closes the camp, ending the movie with new friends and a wealthy family.
The movie is perfect at what it tries to do and how it adapts the book to film, each scene is faithfully created as possible and with a soundtrack consisting of eels, eagle eye cherry, Shiggy, and fiction plane and more, enhances each scene even more, its not the best book movie but it is perfect at what it wants to be, an entertaining teen book movie. And as such should be viewed by all
