Homestuck is a web-comic consisting of multi-media platforms like animations, music, and interactive games. Homestuck ran from April 13, 2009, and concluded on April 13th, 2016, as a web-comic apart of Andrew Hussie’s personal site MS Paint Adventure, that also consists of some of his other work. Andrew Hussie being a prolific artist and storyteller created one of the most sensational works of creative expression made in the last decade.
This beloved game has accrued a massive fanbase and inspired multiple fan-created work, also supported by a strong and deeply loyal community.
“I say it got me into different communities. It gave me confidence to start cosplaying, and through that I made friends, found the comic con scene, and found a future dream of mine.” Theprofpenguin on Reddit.
Originally being simply just works of one man, became a collective effort of a whole community of individuals we usually call a fandom. Spanning across 8,124 pages and being split into several different acts, Andrew Hussie could not have known the cultural impact that homestuck would make at the time.
“At the time it was really one of the first of its kind.” -therpgmonger on YouTube.
Conventions and messaging boards were held in places where fans would easily be able to connect and communicate with one another, creating a sense of community and making homestuck rocket in popularity early on in its creation.
“I just know this is an historic event for the internet that we are witnessing right now.” -Cometcat5728 on YouTube.
Although it’s been almost a decade since it concluded, the homestuck fanbase continues to keep the legacy alive by writing parodies and fanfiction, along with music and art.
