The La Joya volleyball team has been out and about this summer, pushing their limits, to get ready for the 2015 season. Coach Owens pushed and pushed the Lady Lobos to work on their fundamentals, something he said they struggled on last year. As of the scrimmage on Wednesday the 26th, the Lady Lobos had dominated the court against the Desert Edge Scorpions.
This year, the Lobos had already improved to become a better team. Isabella Gibbs, one of the captains for the varsity volleyball team, is really excited about this upcoming season.
Isabella is very passionate about “stepping it up getting over that mental block.”
Going off of this, we see the Lobos fighting for what they want to achieve. The team is all about dedication towards the game and their team.
Outside hitter, Nadia Linares has made it clear that the team just wants nothing more but positivity this year. “My expectations for this year are to stay positive and be a team” she said with a lot passion in her voice.
The volleyball girls have been improving their skills all summer long. Talk about dedication, right? Their summer training included everything from drills of passing, setting, hitting, blocking, and their footwork. These girls work day and night on improving their skills which makes them such strong and dedicated players. The team’s goals this year is to beat their rivals, those who beat them last year, stay aggressive, and keeping up their great serves.
We have great expectations for the ladies this year as senior Stephanie Noriega said, “All we want is a good final season.”
Good luck Lady Lobos!
