A pocket of creation: How to make your own Pokémon?

Since its creation in 1995 Pokémon has been sweeping the world with all of its very unique designs. But how exactly do you make your own? A fan-made Pokémon or a Fake Mon as the community calls it. They are a  Community that loves making concept Pokémon and here’s a simple explanation of how to make your own Pokémon.

The first rule for designing your Pokémon is to keep your mind open don’t stick to a clean-cut concept. Pokémon has a vastly diverse range of design inspirations some are easy to spot like the lovable Pikachu being an electric mouse and others being a bit more in mystery.

Once you got the concept in your mind you can sketch out general shapes like circles, triangles, and ovals to get the overall baseline work framed out. If you need to you can always use other Pokémon, that you know or even references of real animals to help, and you can always use these if you need to use the references for the shape of the Pokémon.

When you are happy with your design you can ink! Just outline it in a pen, marker, or whatever suits your fancy. Now if you’re using pen just wait for the ink to dry before you erase any extra pencil marks then you color it however you like. I would say by the type of Pokémon by this point though some Pokémon look very specific and some aren’t.  You’ve made your own Pokémon!  You can name it, post it or even do whatever you want. If you want, make more just rinse and repeat the steps as much as you want.
