Tyler Oakley Takes Over Tempe
Tyler Oakley, also known as the Queen of YouTube, released his first ever book called “Binge” on Oct. 20th, 2015. With the new book came a book tour that consisted of 13 different cities around the U.S, and Arizona was one of the lucky stops.
With 7 million YouTube subscribers and 500 million YouTube views, Tyler Oakley has become the “face” of social media. Having a loud voice like Tyler’s gives you advantages.
Tyler Oakley is not only a YouTube star but he is also known for taking part of The Trevor Project, which is an organization for the prevention of suicide among LGBTQ+ youth.
He continues to amaze people around the world with his nonstop projects. His book “Binge” climbed up the charts to #1 in the first week of its release. His tour sold out in minutes and I was lucky enough to snag myself 2 tickets.
Changing Hands Bookstore, located in Tempe, hosted the event with nearly 500 people waiting to meet the one and only, Tyler Oakley. You’d think waiting in line would be filled with impatience and boredom but when you are surrounded with people that love the same things you do, automatic friendships are quickly formed.
Time went by very quickly. Tyler started to meet people at 6 p.m. and the
nerves were real. The line was moving ridiculously fast and next thing you know, I was standing next to the security guard ready to meet the person I’ve been supporting for 3 years. It is always a weird feeling when you see them right in front of you.
He looked at me and opened his arms for a hug and I hugged him like there was no tomorrow. He was very genuine and asked me for my name and complimented my hair. We took the cutest picture and with a blink of an eyes, I was back home staring at his book that I’ve known about since May when he announced it.
With a snap of a finger, Tyler Oakley was back on my laptop screen like he had been for the past 3 years.
