Mr. Heytens, the vice principal of La Joya Community High School, expresses much love and -support to his campus, colleges and the students that attend. He states that his favorite thing about being at this school is the ability to work with teachers and students at the same time. In the past he was a teacher and loved working with kids but now is excited to have a new future in working with adults.
Heytens is a staff member that stays very involved in school. Last school year, 2023-2024, he attended many La Joya events including athletics, trunk or treat, theatre and lots of others. One of his favorite things about going to all the school events is being able to experience all the different groups of people and creating new memories. Although he has expressed that he loves basketball and coached it in the past.
He was then asked about how he sees his future. Whether or not he plans on continuing his education or staying the role he currently is in. He states that he is happy with his life currently. Although he thinks whatever happens in the future will happen and he isn’t opposed to the idea of one day being a principal or having a higher role in the school system. Within the time he is in his current position he wants to see where his personal life will go and be able to experience everything, he loves such as golf, traveling and basketball while he has the time. So, for now he is very happy with where he is, and he wants to make more memories at La Joya as his current position and with all the great people he gets to work with every day.
Finishing this interview he was asked his opinions on La Joya Link. He claims that he loves the announcements and thinks it is a great think that we are involving students into out videos such as our new announcement showing the senior backpacks. He wants to see us involve teachers more into the videos and get them excited to show the announcements, other than that though he is a big supporter of La Joya Link. As well as a great addition to our campus. Overall, his first year went well and he is very happy to be able to grow at La Joya.
