What does it mean to be naïve? For many, it’s the distinct line between the ones who know the world and those who don’t. Well, Freya Skye takes that question and answers with nostalgia; that glimmering, fading crack in maturity. In her single, Gold’s Gone, she depicts the showy black awareness of change through vivid childhood memories and displays the feverish feeling of longing for something you know won’t last. The rush of emotions can only be described as an ecstatic Gold Rush, addictive, lingering and almost resentful of its own inability to fade away. Freya Skye’s voice dances through the chorus and the bridge like a dancer exercising her worries the only way she knows how, and in turn gives an entire new meaning to growing pains. She takes the often-villainized reluctance to grow up and gives it not just a relatable voice but a space to scream it’s demands no matter how detached and unrealistic. It’s a refreshing step away from the one-dimensional understanding of what it means to be a teenager, and as the saying goes: adolescents know something children are yet to learn and that adults have forgotten entirely. Well, Freya Skye knows and perhaps her voice is just what this generation needs to remember that golden plated ecstasy of youth on a sunny Sunday morning far into the future.
